Google and Other Search Engines

On this page, you'll learn:

  • how to use Google's Advanced Search to save time and get better results;
  • the benefits of other search engines beyond Google. 

Using Google's Advanced Search

First, watch this short video, created by SUNY's Suffolk County Community College.

  • Note that Advanced Search is now under the Settings tab. 


Then, search for your topic in Google, using Advanced Search.

  • Limit your search to college websites using .edu.
  • Here's a link to Google:


Google Images:

  • click the Images tab in your Google Search Results.
  • Go to Settings > Advanced Search > narrow by color, type, site, etc.
  • These are useful for presentations.

More Search Engines

It's good to know about other search engines that offer options that Google does not. 

StartPage and DuckDuckGo offer more search privacy, with less tracking of your search results.

  • Like Google, they also have an Images tab, useful for presentations.
