I strongly believe in making informed decisions and the power of travel to broaden perspectives.
I'm an avid birder. In recent years, I've gone birding in Borneo, Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Ecuador, Madagascar, Kenya, Iceland, Belize and Costa Rica. I've seen 2,912 bird species (around 26% of the world's ~11,000 species) on six continents.
I have served on the Board of Directors for the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society for many years. I am the chapter's newsletter editor and a member of several regional, statewide and national birding groups.
I love to travel, and have visited 35 countries so far. Several trips were with the college's International Education program (see link below).
I'm a long-time member and coordinator of a book group in Clifton Park. We've read more than 200 books together over the last two decades. Those books tend to be pretty serious, full of issues to discuss. For fun reading, I'm fond of murder mysteries (Louise Penny is one favorite) and comedy (David Sedaris). See the LibraryThing list below for some books I've read at the SUNY Adirondack Library.
Before I became a librarian, I was a newspaper reporter, editor and freelance writer. I was born and raised in New York City.

I retired in the summer of 2021 as the Reference and Instruction Librarian at SUNY Adirondack, Library Website Manager and Distinguished Professor of Library Science. I was awarded the President's Award for Senior Faculty in 2011 and the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship in 1999.
I continue to work part-time as a Reference Librarian, two days a week during the fall and spring semesters. I will continue to be the liaison librarian for the Science and Business Divisions, purchasing books for student research in those areas and working with faculty and staff in those programs. Contact me at millerja@sunyacc.edu. I'll respond on the days I'm working.
I love to travel and enjoy nature. My reading choices reflect this!
