Biographies

An autobiography is a book someone writes about their own life.

A memoir is also generally something written about oneself, but represents a specific period of life, or the story of a particular experience, as opposed to a narrative of the entire life.

Autobiographical fiction uses factual elements from the author's life as inspiration for fictional tales. 

Autobiographies and Memoirs:

Books that people write about their own lives can be a bit tricky to find. Here are some tips:

• From the "Start Your Research Here" box, use the search term Biography and limit your search to Books.
• Then, on your results page, click Advanced Search.
• Limit the field for that search term to SU Subject Terms. That will look for the term Biography as the main subject of the book.
• Then, browse through the results to see book where the subject and the author is the same. If in doubt, check with a librarian or your professor.
