Library Services

Research Assistance:  Reference librarians are available to assist library users with research questions whenever the library is open. Just stop by or call the reference desk (518-743-2200 ext. 2462)  or call the SUNY Adirondack Library directly (743-2260), or use the Ask a Librarian service.

Research Guides and Tutorials: The college's reference librarians have created research guides on dozens of popular research subjects, under "Research by Subject" on the library's home page. The guides recommend library books, article databases and Web sites.

Food and drinks:
It is acceptable to bring covered beverages and food into the library. It is not acceptable to spill them. Please use common sense: clean up after eating, and do not bring in foods that have odors that would disturb other library users. No food or drink is allowed near the computers.

Quiet Study Space: The upper floor of the library is designated as a quiet study area. Any talking should kept a minimum and no louder than a whisper. On the library's main floor, your conversations should not be overheard by others.

Reserve Materials: Instructors may put additional course material on reserve at the Circulation Desk. Reserve items must be used in the library. A student ID or photo ID is needed to use the material. (Instructors: click the "For Faculty" tab above for information on putting items on reserves.)

Photocopier: One is located in the Copier Room near the Reference area. Copies are 10¢ per page. Ask a staff member for help if needed. You may scan a document to a USB drive at no cost; directions are near the copier.

Hill Collection Room: This is a collection of 1,400 books and other items about this region, dating from the mid-18th century to the present, donated by the William Hart Hill family. Materials must be used in the library. See the Hill Collection link.

Group Study Rooms: Student groups may reserve one of these three rooms for two hours by signing up at the Circulation Desk (743-2260).

Library Research Methods course: The college's Library Division offers a one-credit course, LIB187: Library Research Methods, an introduction to the library research process.  Check the college's course listings for the latest information. It's usually held each Monday from 4 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. each semester.

Community use: Community residents may use the library’s resources. They may borrow circulating books and audiobooks with a community borrower card. See link on this page.

Fax: There is no public fax service at the library. Students may visit the college Bookstore, in the Student Center (cost is ~ $1/page).
